Reports from Twitter suggested the CCTV cameras at the Lekki Toll Gate in Lagos were removed by the Lagos State Government right before the curfew starte, possibly to bury evidence of atrocities against the Federal Government.
Governor of Lagos State, Babajide Sanwo-Olu confirmed during his interview on Arise TV 22nd October 2020 that this was untrue. He said, “The devices removed were not security cameras, but laser plate number scanners for vehicles. It picks the tag on cars and number plates”. The LCC Management also put out a statement clarifying that the devices were removed because they were sensitive equipment, and the toll plaza would be unmanned during the curfew. Furthermore, the Governor confirmed the Plaza’s CCTV system was active during the incident. He also suggested the LCC would submit footage from the surveillance system as evidence in Lagos Judicial tribunal investigation.
